INFORMATION |
Braeside is the garden of Rita and the late Dr. Vic Jacobson and is situated on the Main Road, just north of Havelock at the entrance to the Marlborough Sounds in the North Eastern portion of the South Island of New Zealand. It has a central location and easy access from Picton, Blenheim and Nelson for visitors to this area. |
The garden was created back in the early 80's and 90's over a period of two decades and was a show garden for nine years, being on the tour list of Hunter's Garden Marlborough (an annual three day garden event) for seven years. There are amazing view of the estuary, sea and Marlborough hills from a number of lookouts and contains many different areas over several acres. |
It has a combination of native and exotic plants with selective plantings such as the Rhododendrons and Azaleas, Alpine Rockery and Bog garden. To give adequate time to explore the numerous walkways it is suggested that visitors spend an hour or two. The must-see features of the garden are the Summerhouse and lookout, Well and crazy paving area, and the Camomile lawn. |
Cryptomeria Basin, and the Bog Garden are a little further afield. |
Braeside can be visited by appointment and has groups through mostly over the spring and summer months when the garden is at its best. |
