CRYPTOMERIA BASIN

This basin has been planted with a grouping of Cryptomeria japonica (Japanese cedars) which create a cool shady retreat looking down on much of the garden and views of the sea through the trees. A semi-circular seat is set into the clay bank with low shade-loving ground covering plants surrounding stepping slabs at the foot. White flowers of Clematis 'Snowflake' almost creating a waterfall in spring, cover the steep slope behind.
